Tommy Gemmill

As the fifth generation of the Gemmill family in the firm you could say the law is in his blood. His great-great grandfather established the firm in 1870 and the Gemmill family has built up an enviable reputation for taking excellent care of their clients over the years.

Educated at Glasgow Academy and the University of Glasgow he has over 25 years experience of dealing with property and personal legal matters. He prides himself on his prompt and thorough response to his clients’ needs wherever that may take him. He considers all clients of the firm to be part of an extended family and whether it is moving house, winding up an estate, wills or tax planning he is known to provide a friendly and approachable service.

Tommy has specialized for many years now in advising Camelot winners on how to avoid legal and taxation pitfalls of a big win. As such he has clients from Shetland to Stranraer. He is also heavily involved as the Scottish legal adviser to the Express Newspaper group.

Tommy is the Secretary to the Board of Governors at The Glasgow Academy and as well as a passion for all sorts of travel, he enjoys curling and golf.

Neil Rankine

Having built up a large and appreciative band of clients whilst with the firm of Boyds, Neil joined Carruthers Gemmill as a partner in 1997 as his previous firm was moving away from this area of the law. Neil is a passionate advocate for his clients in their property transactions and has a deep knowledge and understanding of the property market in the West of Scotland.

Educated at Hillhead High School and the University of Glasgow, Neil is well known in Glasgow circles and is highly regarded for his enthusiasm and commitment to doing his very best for his clients.

Neil’s dedication to Glasgow Rugby and Hillhead HSFP in particular is well chronicled.

Stephen Watt

Stephen joined the firm in 1982 and then spent a short period working in Robertson Neilson before re-joining Carruthers Gemmill as a partner. He is accordingly steeped in the tradition of giving a good personal service to clients in today’s busy market-place. Stephen was educated at Dumbarton Academy and the University of Glasgow.

Whilst he is very experienced in all conveyancing matters, his specialization is matrimonial work and so the firm offers a comprehensive service to clients, no matter what may befall them. Stephen makes every effort to conciliate and repair situations which might otherwise spiral out of control. He regards court action as a last resort.

Stephen also represents a large number of lottery winners and provides tailored advice to those lucky enough to have chosen the right numbers.

Stephen is an extremely well-kent face further down the river, being a regular performer with the Dumbarton People’s Theatre and a committed follower of, and attendee at, Dumbarton FC matches.
